About Jawane Hilton

Jawane Hilton is an educator and pastor who is committed to bringing diverse groups of people together to get things done for Carson neighborhoods.

Jawane was first elected to the Carson City Council in June 2015 and appointed as Mayor Pro Tem in 2018—making him the youngest person to ever be elected and appointed as Mayor Pro Tem in the City of Carson.

Jawane is the founder and senior pastor of City on the Hill Church in Carson. He also founded a school that focuses on helping at-risk youth get the the education and job training they need to be successful in life. He previously served as a member of both Carson's Public Safety Commission and Human Relations Commission, and worked as the director of public policy for a local non-profit organization.

Born and raised in Carson, Jawane attended Annalee Elementary School, Glenn Hammond Curtiss Middle School, and Carson High School. Jawane completed degrees at California State University, Northridge where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Ethnic Studies with a minor in Urban Development. He also holds an earned Masters of Divinity, from the Haggard School of Theology (HST) at Azusa Pacific University. He is also a graduate of the Faith Leaders Institute at University Of Southern California. (USC)

Jawane Hilton is a leader beyond his own city and serves on several boards, agencies, and committees at the local, state and national levels. He has been recognized by the National Action Network as a mover and shaker and one of the top 100 people under 40. Jawane has also been honored by the Empowerment Congress with their 40 under 40 award for the significant work he has done. 

Jawane is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated.

Jawane and his wife are Carson homeowners and are parents to three adorable daughters Raegan Grace, Ryleigh Faith and Rhyan Hope.
